About this job

About The Role

Young people are smart, creative and energetic change-makers—full of ideas and possibilities as they navigate their way.

The Department of Education is committed to understanding the challenges facing today's youth and ensuring the right conditions are in place for every student to succeed.

At Kingaroy State High School, we believe every student can thrive at school. However, some young people experience barriers to successful participation and engagement.

The risk of disengagement can occur at any stage of education, and timely interventions play a critical role in supporting students to reconnect and get back on track.

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with secondary students who may be at risk of disengaging from education. This role is central to strengthening student wellbeing, engagement, and connection to learning.

The Youth Support Coordinator will undertake a range of activities, including:

  • Identification of students at risk of disengagement and provision of early intervention support including case management
  • Development and facilitation of lunchtime engagement programs, including Breakfast Club and other initiatives responsive to student needs
  • Delivery of social skills and targeted student support programs informed by school data
  • Maintaining an active and visible presence within the school, and supporting students in the playground, classroom and the wider community
  • Contributing as an active member of the school's student engagement centre and attendance planning processes.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and support inclusive, positive pathways for student success.

About You

The successful applicant will bring a student-centred approach and a strong commitment to supporting young people.

The following skills, experience and personal qualities would be highly beneficial:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and support programs that promote social, emotional and behavioural wellbeing.

  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school and community team
