About Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre

The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC) is a co-educational school that delivers educational programs for up to 162 remanded and sentenced young people at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre. BYETC students have diverse learning needs, and a significant majority have had disrupted or negative schooling experiences. We seek to address this by supporting students to close individual learning gaps and attain vocational skills leading to qualifications.

About the Role

Reporting to the RTO manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality and compliant training that results in successful student outcomes. You will support students using a personalised learning approach, maintain records of student progress and contribute to the continuous improvement and strategic direction of the school.

The ideal candidate for this role will have demonstrated skills and experience in delivering automotive qualifications to students with diverse learning needs and from a range of settings, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, speakers of English as an additional language or dialect, young people with learning difficulties and early school leavers.

Specific responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Provide coaching, training and support to participants to achieve educational or employment outcomes;
  • Ensure all participants are engaged in activities that focus on training, employment or personal development; and
  • Build relationships and network with employers, stakeholders, training providers and community links
  • Experience in delivering vocational training or developing apprentices will be highly valued, as will a demonstrated capacity to build relationships and networks with employers and other stakeholders to support young people to gain entry into the automotive field.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • An understanding of the Australian Government Core Skills for Work Developmental Framework.
  • Experience with competency-based training in foundation skills and pre-employment training.
