About the Education Centre:
Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre is a small team of teaching and non-teaching staff located in the Newmarket State School campus, approximately 5km to the north of the centre of Brisbane. The Centre occupies office space in the main school building and has a small grounds including teaching and storage space in adjacent classroom and garage buildings. Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre is committed to supporting schools in implementing the Australian National Curriculum in the areas of Science, History and Geography. Our programs provide students with authentic experiential learning opportunities which allow them to make meaningful connections between classroom learning and the real world. By providing a supportive, inspiring and engaging environment, we ensure that every student has the opportunity to experience success at a level that challenges the individual.
Centre programs focus on:
- Science.
- History - colonial settlement, past and present.
- Geography - investigations of place and the relationship between people and places.
- Sustainability and sustainable living (including waste, water and energy).
- Special programs (Brisbane Show Camp; GEMS; Palaeontologists in Rural Schools).
- Personal development programs.
About the Role:
- Preparation and set-up of resources for day-to-day program delivery.
- Clean-up and pack-up of resources after day-to-day program delivery.
- Maintenance and storage of program resources and equipment.
- Assist teachers in components of outdoor and environmental education programs including the delivery of practical instruction and demonstration to students onsite and offsite.
- Maintain centre grounds and facilities and undertake site improvement activities.
- Assist teachers in the preparation of certificates and student field booklets, and basic IT tasks including iPads.
The ideal candidate would possess the following:
- Automatic driver's license
- Ability to work within a team and independently where necessary.
- Ability to work and engage with students from P-12.
- Safe use of basic power tools including brush cutter, leaf blower, drill etc.
- IT skills in Microsoft Office suite programs particularly Word, PowerPoint etc.
- Previous experience in a support role within schools' settings would be highly regarded.
- Ability to follow clear directions from teaching staff, the Business Manager and Principal.
