About Us

Cleveland Education and Training Centre (CETC) is a Department of Education school operating within the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre in Townsville. The Centre's catchment comprises the area graphically north from Rockhampton, west to the border and includes island communities off the Queensland coastline. Young people incarcerated by the court system are from ten to eighteen years.

CETC is a service provider within the Detention Centre therefore all staff are required to comply with a range of safety and security protocols. From 2022 CETC has delivered education programs within the Detention Centre for 48 weeks of the year. Staff will be required to operate on a roster where leave allocation falls outside the mainstream school holiday periods. All new staff employed will need to be willing and able to take leave outside the school holiday periods to accommodate rosters.

Your Role

As the Transition Officer, you will work collaboratively with students and relevant stakeholders to assist young people in making a successful transition from youth detention facilities to employment, training and/or educational pathways in the community. The Transition Officer is responsible for meeting placement and outcome targets by successfully engaging and supporting students to transition into education and employment and sustaining their placement post detention. The Transition Officer collaborates with a range of stakeholders, including students and carers, Queensland Government partner agencies, and agencies from the broader service system.

As the Transition Officer, you will work closely with the Head of Department to enact the school's strategic plan and participate in quality improvement activities, including data collection and analysis, program review and evaluation and implementation of innovative practice.

About You

The successful applicant will have the ability to implement strategies and programs that will improve the transition outcomes of young people who may have had varied schooling experiences, and a proven capacity to work effectively with young people in addressing their future learning, training and employment pathways.
