Position Information

Gymea Bay Public School is located in the southern suburbs of Sydney on the traditional lands of the Dharawal people and has a population of 745 students. Gymea Bay Public School promotes practices that support student wellbeing, ensuring inclusivity, connectedness and a positive mindset whilst engaging students in learning through evidence-based practices. The Strategic Improvement Plan (2021 - 2025) focuses on student growth through high quality teaching programs, data driven differentiation and authentic collaboration in the pursuit of academic excellence. Starting in 2025, the newly established Inclusive Education Hub, featuring three dedicated classes, will provide specialist and intensive support for eligible students with Autism. There is a strong relationship with a proactive P&C consisting of parents, carers and the wider community. With a proud history in both sports and performing arts, Gymea Bay Public School is dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive and thriving learning environment for all students.

The Itinerant Support Teacher Vision (ISTV) is based at Gymea Bay Public School and travels to support students with vision impairment within the Sutherland Shire schools network. The ISTV supports students across a range of school settings, including those prior to school-age, preschool, primary school, high school, schools for specific purposes (SSP) and support classes.

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach, candidates must have completed their Masters of Disability Studies - Vision and have skills in Braille with a demonstrated ability to effectively teach students with Vision Impairment K-12.
  2. Demonstrated capability to design, deliver and evaluate differentiated teaching and learning programs for students with vision impairment.
  3. Proven capacity to employ a range of accessible assessment strategies and utilise explicit teaching approaches to identify and target the learning needs of students with vision impairment.
  4. Demonstrate positive communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a proven capacity to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and external agencies to meet the needs of students with vision impairment.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

 

Special Notes

This is a permanent part-time position of 3.5 per week, 0.7FTE (full time equivalent).

Ability and willingness to travel between worksites.
