Position Information

Cessnock West Public School is located in Cessnock on Wonnarua, Darkinjung and Awabakal Country. The school has an enrolment of approximately 400 students including 32% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 9% students from a Language Background other than English. The school has 18 classes including an Opportunity Class (OC) on site for students in Stage 3 and an ILS-MH class for students K-6. The school values its diverse community and is committed to evidence-based and trauma-informed practices to deliver high-quality education. The school has strong connections to the Korreil Wonnai AECG, Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools, Cessnock Principals Network and an active and supportive Parents and Citizens Association. 

The Itinerant support teacher-Vision (IST-V) works with students who have a confirmed vision disability in NSW public schools. The specialist teacher supports students, their teachers and families from preschool through to Year 12. The IST-V provides advice on reasonable adjustments for students in a range of settings with a confirmed vision loss. The Itinerant support teacher-Vision will work in a multi-disciplinary team with students, parents and carers, teachers, school learning and support teams and other professionals. They may carry out student assessments, take part in review meetings, support school staff in making teaching and learning adjustments and provide professional learning for school staff. 

While based at Cessnock West Public School, Cessnock, this position involves supporting students in the Cessnock, Maitland and Muswellbrook network areas. 

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach Vision Impairment (Itinerant) and approval and/or willingness to teach braille with experience teaching students with a vision impairment across all stages, in a variety of settings

The capacity to integrate assistive technology to enhance and support the learning of students with a vision impairment.

Demonstrated communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a proven capacity to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and external agencies. 

Proven capacity to work with a caseload of students from diverse backgrounds across a range of school settings, demonstrating ability to deliver and monitor Personalised Learning and Support Plans and set targeted learning goals. 

Ability and willingness to travel between worksites. 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
