Position Information
Westport Public School has a current enrolment of approximately 367 students, with 33% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. In 2025, the school comprises 14 mainstream classes and 3 Multi-Categorical Support classes for students with special learning needs. In 2026, an additional Multi-Categorical and Intellectual Moderate / Autism class will be established to support our growing diverse learner population.
Westport Public School is located on Birpai land in the well-established community of Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience working with students who have additional learning needs, including autism, intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbances, and behavioural difficulties with a proven ability to use effective strategies to support their communication, sensory, social, and behavioural needs.
  2. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and deliver differentiated and personalised learning programs for students with complex learning needs, with a strong focus on using explicit teaching methods to enhance student learning and achieve positive outcomes across all Key Learning Areas.
  3. Demonstrated strong and flexible classroom management skills that effectively enhance student engagement and wellbeing, with the ability to apply targeted strategies to support students’ diverse communication, behavioural, sensory, social, and emotional needs, fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  4. Highly developed communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated commitment to positively contribute to the culture of special education and the wider school community by building and maintaining strong, effective partnerships with colleagues, students, families, and external agencies.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
