Position Information

The IST-V role supports schools to make the curriculum accessible to students with low vision and blindness in preschool, primary schools, high schools, schools for specific purposes and support classes.

Explicit teaching of Expanded Core Curriculum focus areas such as self advocacy, independent living skills and safe movement techniques is a requirement of the role.

The base school for this position is Newbridge Heights Public School which is located in the leafy suburb of Chipping Norton. The school has a current enrolment of 403 students. The IST-V travels to support students with vision impairment (preschool to Year 12) in the Bankstown, Chullora and Chipping Norton network of schools. This is a collaborative support role that aims to build the capacity of school staff to develop, implement and monitor quality teaching programs for students with vision impairment.

Applicants must have a current drivers licence, their own vehicle and comprehensive insurance

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach students with vision impairment. (k-12), including those whose main medium is Braille, across a range of educational settings from preschool to Year 12.

  2. Knowledge/experience of assistive technology and braille technology accessed by students with vision impairment, with capacity to teach and support students in its use to enhance educational inclusion.
  3. Demonstrated ability to design and implement personalised programs aligned with the expanded core curriculum, while supporting and collaborating with school staff to deliver tailored educational adjustments for students with vision impairment.
  4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with capacity to build authentic relationships and work proactively within a multi-disciplinary team to support the learning and wellbeing needs of students with vision impairment.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
