Position Information
This position is based at Orange Public School in the Central West of NSW. The role involves service delivery of vision support and teaching across the Orange/Bathurst and Cowra Districts. Orange Public School has a current student population of 778 with 9% Aboriginal student percentage. The school celebrates a strong diversity of cultures having 32 languages other than english spoken in the home environments across the grades. The school has strong focus towards explicit teaching and community engagement.
Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach Visual Impairment (Primary) and Visual Impairment (Secondary).
2. High level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with a proven capacity to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and external agencies, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities.
3. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department of Education’s relevant disability policies as well as the policies and protocols supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in culturally safe environments and respecting cultural practices.
4. Experience in teaching the use of braille, assistive technology and associated software including iOS applications to support access to the curriculum, as well as the ability to co-develop and monitor personalised learning and other relevant plans for students with visual impairments.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
Special Notes
Ability and willingness to travel between worksites.
This is a permanent part-time position of 3 days per week, 0.600 FTE (full time equivalent)
