Position Information
Maitland Public School, with 409 students serves a diverse school community with 21% of students identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. We have 16 mainstream classes and three support classes that cater for students with mild/moderate intellectual and Mult categorical disabilities. The school has a well-established student wellbeing approach and embraces the structure of Positive Behaviour for Learning and Berry Street Restorative Practices methodologies. Teachers collaborate with APC&I’s, APs, intervention and SLSO’s to promote to development and improve the engagement of each child. The school draws students from as far afield as Singleton, Cessnock and Newcastle which places particular emphasis on parent and community participation, communication and inclusion due to the distance students travel to attend the school. We are aligned with Maitland Grossmann High School as our major feeder school partner.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach K-12 students with a vision impairment.
- Proven experience in working with and assessing students with vision impairment or blindness in an educational setting.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and resources that support students with vision impairment.
- Experience in adapting the curriculum and teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Ability to communicate complex information in an accessible manner to students, staff and parents.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Ability and willingness to travel between worksites.
Applicants seeking permanent part time employment are encouraged to apply for this position. The recommended applicant will be offered an appointment at their desired FTE (up to the maximum FTE of the advertised position). This is a permanent part time position for 4 days per week 0.8FTE (Full-time equivalent)
