Position Information
Ultimo Public School is an inner-city school located on the fringe of Darling Harbour and Chinatown area.
In 2020 our school completed a major rebuild that transformed our teaching environments into flexible, collaborative learning spaces. School enrolments are increasing, and we are currently supporting 502 students in 21 classes.
Our school is supported by a strong, connected multi-cultural community and our Chinese community language program supports students in maintaining and developing further communicative competence in their community language. 72.2% of our students have a language background other than English, 55% require some level of EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) support, and 3% of students identify as Aboriginal. Our students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds.
The position is as the substantive teacher in our newly established independent support. The successful candidate will work side by side with dedicated SLSO and school staff supporting the diverse needs of our students.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Autism, Behaviour Difficulties and Mild Intellectual Disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and deliver differentiated and personalised learning programs for students with complex learning needs, with a strong focus on using explicit teaching methods to enhance student learning and achieve positive outcomes across all Key Learning Areas.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, families, and external agencies, to build an inclusive and supportive school culture.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in using a range of classroom management and flexible teaching strategies that engage and cater for the academic, communication, sensory, social and emotional needs of students.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
