Position Information
The Benedict Tutorial Program is located across three Chifley College Campuses, Mt Druitt, Dunheved and Shalvey. Each campus has a class of seven students with individual learning and behavioural needs. Positions will be located at the Dunheved and Shalvey Campus.
The program provides an age appropriate short-term intervention that enables students to develop skills and strategies in the areas of social and emotional, behaviour and individual academic learning needs in a small group setting of seven students.
The curriculum is delivered through a variety of teaching and learning experiences, to cater for the individual needs of all students. Literacy, Numeracy and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the core focus in improving student learning outcomes in this program. The aim of the program is to facilitate the re-engagement of students and offer them opportunities to achieve success in education.
Both Secondary and Primary trained teachers who are willing to teach Special Education in a secondary setting are encouraged to apply.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval and / or experience in teaching Special Education (Secondary). In particular Autism and / or Behaviour Difficulties and / or Mild-Moderate Intellect Disability and / or Emotion Disturbance.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver a differentiated curriculum and quality assessments for learning practices that meet the academic, social, emotional and behaviour needs of the students.
- Demonstrated effective classroom management skills and an understanding of and capacity to manage the needs of students with challenging behaviours.
- Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work proactively and professionally as part of a team, including parent/carers, school learning support officers and the wider school community.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
