Position Information

Toormina High School is a comprehensive co-educational school that includes a special education support unit. The school has an enrolment of 760 students, including 22% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and 3% language background other than English. The school is situated on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, eight kilometres south of Coffs Harbour. Toormina High School works collaboratively within the Bongil Bongil Community of Schools (BBCoS), comprising several partner primary schools located within Sawtell, Toormina, Boambee, Bonville, and Crossmaglen. A highly skilled and dedicated staff provide a wide range of learning and extra-curricular opportunities for students. We have an involved and committed P&C and AECG and enjoy strong ties to our local Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities

Specific Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with complex learning needs, including students with Autism and Behaviour Difficulties. 

2. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, school learning support officers, support agencies and the wider community.

3. Demonstrated ability to differentiate and deliver the curriculum to engage students and to develop dynamic individual education plans that respond to the social, emotional, behavioural and academic needs of each student.

4. Demonstrated capacity and understanding of meeting the educational, social, and cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and those from diverse cultural backgrounds. 

 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
