Position Information

Tamworth High, situated on the ancestral lands of the Gomeroi people, has a student body numbering 650, approximately 43% of whom identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The Special Education unit has a student body of 62 students across seven support classes. The school currently has 2 MC, 2 IM, 1 IO, 1 ED and 1 AU class, supporting students with intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, autism, physical disabilities, sensory impairment and behaviour disorders.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with physical, mild, moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, autism, complex needs, and challenging behaviours.

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver a differentiated curriculum and quality assessments for learning practices that meet the academic, social, emotional and behaviour needs of the students.

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff and the wider community.

Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies and a demonstrated willingness to enhance the wellbeing, engagement, and attainment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
