We are an inclusive and proud comprehensive public high school with a Support Unit which has 12 classes, located in Sydney's inner west. Our school community reflects modern Australia, with students from all corners of the world. The school population of approximately 600, with 80% of students from a non-English speaking background. We cater for international students who elect to attend Strathfield South High School to take advantage of the learning opportunities available. We have a large Support unit of 8 Autism and 4 Hearing Support classes supported by a Deputy Principal, Inclusion and Support. We celebrate and champion diversity, and work collaboratively with our community to ensure all students develop a deep understanding and empathy for the cultural backgrounds of themselves and others.

Specific Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with Autism, mild and moderate intellectual disabilities and complex challenging behaviours, with a strong commitment to and passion in inclusive education.

2. Evidence of exemplary programming and planning to integrate students’ Personalised Learning and Support Plan (PLSP) goals.

3. Demonstrated classroom management skills and capacity to enhance student engagement and participation through planned and evaluated PLSPs that respond to the social, emotional, behavioural, and communication needs of all students.

4. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills that contribute to a culture of inclusivity through proactive collaboration with students, colleagues, parents/carers, school learning support officers, external agencies and the wider school community.

Conditions

Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (Conditions Apply). The Recruitment Bonus will be paid on a pro rata basis for permanent part-time teachers and executive staff. The maximum recruitment bonus available for a position is $20,000, including any job share arrangements.

 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
