Position Information

Snowy Valleys School, is a school for specific purposes that caters for the educational and wellbeing needs for 33 students from 4-18 (K-12) with a moderate to severe intellectual disability, autism and complex needs including physical disability, sensory impairment, challenging behaviour and health care needs. The school has 5 permanent classes. Snowy Valleys School is in the rural town of Tumut and is part of the Gundagai Network of Schools. The school has a reputation for quality in special education and values strong relationships with families, key stakeholders from allied health services, local support agencies and the community.

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, moderate to severe intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities and challenging behaviours with demonstrated ability to implement strategies that meet their communication, sensory, social and behavioural needs.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing with the ability to develop and effectively implement individual learning plans, behaviour support plans and risk management plans with all stakeholders to support the behavioural, social, sensory and learning needs of students. 
  3. Demonstrated ability to design and teach quality, differentiated educational programs and develop Personalised Learning Support Plans and Behaviour Management Plans for students with a wide range of individual learning needs, while providing a culture of high expectations for all students in a multistage setting.
  4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, school learning support officers, support agencies and the wider community.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
