Position Information
Schofields Public School is in the Northwest growth area of Sydney. The community is growing rapidly, and enrolments are increasing. The current enrolment is 1080, with 77% of students from a non-English-speaking background and 31 students identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. We value our links with the local Australian Education Consultative Group and are forming our own Junior AECG to support the children and families in our community. Our First Nation students enjoy joining their Junior and Senior Australian Indigenous Students' (AIS) groups to celebrate and participate in cultural activities. Our Pasifika students join with staff to sing, dance, perform, and observe traditional practices.
We place a strong emphasis on high expectations, and outstanding teaching and learning programs supported by ongoing professional learning of staff. Our facilities feature a combination of shared collaborative learning spaces and stand-alone classrooms for students and staff, including five learning spaces to cater to students with additional needs (Inclusive Support Unit). A collaborative team-teaching approach is central to our plans to build high collective teacher efficacy.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/ or experience teaching students with additional learning needs including autism, intellectual disabilities and behavioural difficulties with proven abilities to implement strategies to meet their communication, sensory, social and challenging behavioural needs.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum and to work collaboratively to build, implement and review effective approaches that meet the needs of students as determined by their Personalised Learning and Support Plans and transition plans.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to positively contribute to the school culture by working collaboratively with staff members, students, families and external agencies.
- Proven ability to implement effective wellbeing initiatives that maintain and enhance a positive, supportive and culturally inclusive classroom environment, underpinned by an understanding of the diverse needs of individual students.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
