Position Information

Picton High School has approximately1150 students including 10% of students from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and 3% of students from an English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) background. It is a comprehensive secondary school in the Wollondilly Shire. We are located south-west of Sydney and have a regional outlook. Our school was rebuilt in 2022, with a large range of specialist facilities. Students are offered a diverse curriculum including targeted literacy and numeracy programs in Stage 4 and extensive vocational education opportunities in stages 5 and 6. There are seven primary schools in our drawing area. Approximately 100 teachers and support staff work to provide a quality education for our students. Our school prioritises wellbeing, literacy and numeracy and innovative teaching practices to engage students. We currently have eleven classes in our support unit which cater for the individual needs of our students.

Specific Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with Autism and a Physical Disability and other complex support and learning needs. 
  • Demonstrated quality classroom practice which enhance student engagement through enriched, differentiated and individualised learning programs.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and the capacity to work collaboratively in teams and contribute to a positive school culture with students, parents/carers, staff and the wider community. 
  • Proven ability to develop and implement a variety of behavioural support strategies to establish inclusive and positive learning environments for students of all backgrounds.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
