Position Information

Nowra East Public School (NEPS) is a Connected Communities school located on the South Coast. We work in partnership with our community to provide excellent teaching and learning opportunities within a nurturing and inclusive environment. We ensure that our 460 students, including 53% Aboriginal students, continually improve in cultural identity, wellbeing, literacy and numeracy outcomes. We have 17 mainstream classes, 7 support classes and a preschool.  The school works closely with our Aboriginal Educational Officers, Aboriginal community and the Nowra Local AECG to support cultural understanding and connection to Country.

At NEPS we aim to provide excellence in education for all with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. All staff engage in ongoing professional learning using current evidence-based pedagogy. Students, families, and staff collaboratively develop PLPs for all students, providing adjustments for students with additional needs. NEPS is a PBL School, and our values are safe, respectful, responsible learner. Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach special education and/or expertise in teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Mild to Moderate Intellectual Disabilities, mental health, behaviour and complex learning needs.
  2. Demonstrated ability to develop behaviour support plans and implement flexible classroom management strategies which create a positive learning environment to promote student engagement and connection.
  3. Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in teams and closely with parents/carers to enhance outcomes for students with special needs.
  4. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education policies and the capacity to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across the curriculum for all students.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
