Position Information

Located in the Girraween network, Northmead Public School opened in 1924 with current student enrolment numbers of 640. The school has a diverse population with approximately 50% from a language background other than English. Less than 1% of student population identify as being Aboriginal.

Our school provides a safe, compassionate, stimulating learning and wellbeing environment where everyone is encouraged to continually improve and where the practice and understandings of students, families, staff and whole school community align with the values and goals of Our Plan for NSW Public Education and the School Excellence Framework (SEF). The school has a committed, collaborative and dedicated staff with a mixture of experienced and early career teachers and a proactive parent community. Current priorities include growth and attainment in literacy and numeracy, capacity building for staff and students and the development of wellbeing in an inclusive school environment. Extra curricular opportunities in creative and performing arts, sport, public speaking and leadership forums enable our students to excel through a range of different experiences. In 2025, the school established 3 AU support classes. 

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with complex needs such as autism, intellectual disability and challenging behaviours. 

Demonstrate ability to differentiate the curriculum in a multi-grade classroom and develop Personalised Learning Plans to maximise student growth, promote high expectations and ensure engagement for all students with a disability.

 

Capacity to effectively communicate across all stakeholders within the school context including students, parents/carers, external agencies and the wider community, to build respectful relationships and enhance a culture of inclusivity.

Evidence of implementing strong classroom management strategies and well being programs with a proven ability to develop learning environment that promotes inclusion and student success. 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
