Position Information

Marayong Public School is situated in Western Sydney. The school has a student population of approximately 630 students, including seven inclusive classes (made up of students with autism, mild and moderate intellectual disabilities) and a preschool that caters for 80 students. Our school demographics include 66% of students from Non-English-Speaking Backgrounds, comprising of 39 nationalities, 44 different languages and 48 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Our school reflects a diversity of socioeconomic circumstances.

Successful candidate will work with students with autism and/or mild, moderate intellectual disability. Classes are arranged to suit behaviour and learning needs of students in age-appropriate groupings.

The teacher and class are supported by a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO).

 

Specific Selection Criteria

Selection criteria

  1. Approval to teach Special Education/and or experience teaching students with additional learning needs including autism, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, with proven abilities to implement strategies to meet their communication, sensory, social and challenging behavioural needs. 
  2. Demonstrated ability to differentiate learning programs for students with complex learning needs with a strong focus on growth in literacy and numeracy outcomes supported by the implementation of individualised learning programs that are aligned with the Disability Standards for Education.
  3. Evidence of outstanding flexible classroom management skills that demonstrates the implementation of whole school wellbeing programs focused on improving student engagement, creating a positive learning environment and promoting inclusive practices in all school settings.
  4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to contribute to the whole school culture and work collaboratively to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, external agencies and members of the wider community.
  5. Capacity to effectively contribute to whole school programs and initiatives, with an emphasis on inclusive practices.

 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
