Position Information

Karonga School is a school for specific purposes with an enrolment of 78 students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities from 4 to 18 years of age. Our students come from diverse cultural backgrounds with 72% of students from language backgrounds other than English. Many of the students also have additional behavioural, healthcare, physical and/or sensory needs. Karonga values its parents and caregivers as key partners in their child’s education. Karonga has strong and dynamic connections with the broader community and outside agencies. Karonga School hosts Pennant Parade Tutorial Centre (PPTC).

Specific Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual and physical disabilities, autism, complex needs and challenging behaviour. 

2. Ability to design and deliver differentiated learning and positive support programs to engage students with special needs.

3. Demonstrated classroom management skills that support the needs of a diverse range of students,  including students with challenging behaviours. 

4. Ability to work in partnership with staff, families, students and other key stakeholders to prioritise and deliver learning programs for achievement of students outcomes.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
