Position Information

Gunnedah High School is a welcoming, comprehensive high school central to the Connected Communities Strategy. Located 78 kilometres west of Tamworth in the New England region of NSW, it serves Gunnedah and surrounding rural areas, including Boggabri, Mullaley, and Somerton. With a current enrolment of 410 students, 53% identifying as Aboriginal, the school is committed to meeting diverse student needs through tailored learning pathways and career-focused opportunities. 

The school features a Special Education Unit with five MC classes, one IM class, and a Tutorial Centre from 2025, ensuring every student is known, valued, and cared for. Gunnedah High emphasizes achievement and participation in academic, cultural, and sporting pursuits, celebrating student success within the school and the broader community. Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students (7-12) with complex learning and support needs including Autism and Mild Intellectual Disability and/or Moderate Intellectual Disability.
  2. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the diverse learning needs of students requiring additional support.
  3. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  4. Strong skills in applying evidence-based teaching strategies and educational technologies that engage students with a range of abilities and promote inclusion.
  5. Ability to monitor, assess, and report on student progress, adapting teaching approaches as necessary and maintaining clear, constructive communication with students, parents, and colleagues.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
