Position Information
Since 1883 Gardeners Road Public School has provided excellence in education to the students. The current enrolment is 445 students with approximately 55% from a non-English speaking background and 5% identifying as Aboriginal. The school provides a Cultural Resident program to develop our students' understanding of culture, people and country. We are an inclusive and diverse learning community comprised of teachers and parents who work together for the benefit of all students. There is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy programs focusing on explicit and differentiated teaching strategies with specialised support to meet students' needs. The school provides creative and performing arts opportunities with all sporting endeavours being encouraged. A valued component of our school is the highly regarded Support Unit comprising seven classes. Caring and expert staff provide individualised programs that support integration for students with a range of disabilities.
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach Special Education and / or experience teaching students with additional learning needs including autism, intellectual disabilities and behavioural challenges with proven abilities to implement strategies to meet their communication, sensory, social and challenging behavioural needs.
Demonstrated ability to differentiate learning experiences for students with complex learning needs with a strong focus on high expectations and growth in literacy and numeracy supported by the implementation of individualised learning programs that are aligned with the Disability Standards for Education.
Evidence of outstanding flexible classroom management skills that demonstrates the implementation of whole school wellbeing programs focused on improving student engagement, creating a positive learning environment and promoting inclusive practices in all school settings.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to contribute to the whole school culture and work collaboratively to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, external agencies and members of the wider community.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
