Position Information

Francis Greenway High School is an inclusive comprehensive secondary school with a Support Unit. The student population continues to grow with a current enrolment of 750 students. 7% of students have a background where English is an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) and 20% identify as having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. The school forms part of the Gateway Learning Community of schools who, as a group, provide a continuous path of learning for all students. Students are provided challenge and support to reach their educational potential, including targeted strategies to support high potential and gifted students. Students engage in a variety of extracurricular activities in sport, science, culture, the arts, drama, music and leadership. The student body are represented in decision making processes across the school through both the Student Voice Team and the Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group. A strong wellbeing focus is based on clear, consistent and fair boundaries, high expectations and individual recognition of success. The school values the support of its community. We have fostered strong partnerships with universities, cultural institutions, business and industry, and community groups. Our Parent and Citizens body is a highly supportive group involved in the decision-making process and the operation of our school canteen. The Maitland Local AECG is a valuable consultative body which supports our Junior AECG and implementation of the Aboriginal education policy.

 

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach special education and/or experience and willingness to teach students with Autism, Behaviour Difficulties, Mild Intellectual Disability and Emotion Disturbance.

Demonstrated ability to develop , implement and evaluate quality individual personalised learning support and behaviour plans to facilitate improved student learning outcomes.

Evidence of successful classroom management with a proven ability to develop a positive learning environment that promotes success of students from diverse backgrounds.

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated capacity to build positive partnerships with families, support staff, interagency personnel, and colleagues

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
