Position Information
Fairfield Public School, established in 1889, is situated in the heart of Fairfield's central business district. The current enrolment is over 400 students, with 95% of students from a language background other than English, with approximately 35% of students from a refugee background. The school values its diverse community and is committed to evidence-based and trauma-informed practices to deliver high-quality education in a safe and supportive environment, aiming to achieve academic growth and support student wellbeing.
An Inclusive Learning Hub is currently being established to commence at the beginning of the 2026 school year. The Inclusive Learning Hub will comprise two Autism (Au) classes and one Autism/Intellectual Disability (Au/IO) class. The successful teachers will teach two of the three classes and be committed to providing an inclusive, safe and quality teaching and learning program to ensure maximised learning outcomes for all students.
Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience/willingness to teach students with a variety of disabilities, including Autism, sensory impairments, communication needs and behavioural difficulties.
2. Demonstrated ability to differentiate the curriculum by developing and implementing personalised learning and support that is culturally responsive, maximises student growth, fosters high expectations and promotes student engagement.
3. Evidence of implementing strong classroom management strategies and wellbeing programs with a proven ability to develop a positive learning environment that promotes student success.
4. Highly developed interpersonal skills and capacity to effectively communicate across stakeholders including school staff, parents and carers and external agencies, to build respectful relationships and enhance a culture of inclusivity.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
