Position Information

Coonamble High School is a Connected Communities comprehensive co-educational school with an enrolment of 180 students. This includes 75% indigenous students and a Support Unit of 5 classes. The town has a population of approximately 3000 with a vibrant sporting and community calendar providing students, families and teachers many opportunities to participate in the community. The school is situated approximately 160km north of Dubbo. Our school vision is "Empowering students to be the best they can be to live a good life."

Supported by the School Reference Group, AECG, P&C, Clontarf and NASCA Academy, the school also enjoys partnerships with key service providers to enable students to access their learning and achieve high level outcomes. Students participate in a senior compressed curriculum which offers broad subject choice. All students have personal learning plans. The school works closely with three primary partner schools to assist student transition.

Special Education Teacher

This role requires a Special Education teacher who can teach in one of our Mild Intellectual, Moderate Intellectual/Autism, or one of our 3 Multi-Categorical classes. Coonamble HS is a supportive environment for teachers, emphasising professional learning as one of our Strategic Directions. To ensure continuity we employ full time relief teachers to support observation, mentoring and coaching. We take pride in a highly inclusive school community. Specific Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Autism (Secondary), Mild Intellectual Disability (Secondary) and Moderate Intellectual Disability (Secondary).
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to faculty planning, whole school programs, and develop positive relationships with students, staff and the wider community.
  • Capacity to deliver a variety of effective and differentiated learning experiences that will result in student growth across learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education policies, including the Connected Communities Strategy.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

 

Special Notes

Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (conditions apply) and a relocation support payment of $5,000 to $8,000 for eligible applicants.
