Position Information
Claymore Public School is located in South-West Sydney and acknowledges the Dharawal people as the traditional custodians of the area. The school has a total enrolment of 284 students from preschool to Year 6, including 64 students in the school's current support classes. These classes consist of one Mild Intellectual Disabilities/ Autism, three Autism and two Early Intervention support classes. There are 58% of students from a language background other than English and 19% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The school caters for students from diverse language, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and aims to develop the whole child and cater for individual differences, providing many programs to support students' specific needs. The school values a collaborative, respectful and nurturing environment that places students at the heart of the school. Staff continue to build on quality teaching, learning and academic outcomes, focusing on literacy and numeracy.
The school's FOEI (Family Occupation and Employment Index) is 164 and the Claymore community is currently going through a redevelopment which will continue over the next 5 years.
There will be 8 support classes in the school from 2025 following the introduction of a second Moderate Intellectual Disabilities/ Autism class. The large support class staff team work collaboratively to meet student needs and prioritise strong partnerships with families and external agencies. The team is supported by a Deputy Principal and an Assistant Principal - Inclusion and Support.
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Autism and Mild Intellectual Disabilities (Primary) and willingness to teach Moderate Intellectual Disabilities (Primary).
Ability to design, deliver and evaluate differentiated teaching and learning programs for students with special needs.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, carers and key stakeholders to improve student outcomes.
Ability to plan and implement behaviour and risk management plans, to support trauma informed practice, and meet the needs of students who are exhibiting challenging behaviours.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
