Position Information

Blackett Public School, with an enrolment of 260 students, including 34% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 30% of students from a non-English speaking background, mainly Pacific Islander, is situated in Western Sydney. The school has a support unit with four classes catering for students with a range of intellectual, physical and emotional disabilities.  

Aboriginal Education is a priority in all aspects of the curriculum. Equity funding facilitates innovative initiatives and best practice pedagogy drives interventions in literacy and numeracy, for students, Kindergarten to Year 6.

School wide initiatives ensure a consistent approach to student wellbeing. Parent and community partnerships are highly valued and are considered an integral part of our school’s success. The school works closely with external agencies.

Specific Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism. 
  • Ability to design, deliver and evaluate differentiated teaching and learning programs for students. 
  • Demonstrated classroom management skills that support trauma informed practices and the needs of a diverse range of students.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, carers and key stakeholders to improve student outcomes.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
