The newly established Support Unit at Barrenjoey High School includes two Autism classes and one Multi-Categorical class, providing a range of support options for secondary students, from full attendance in the support unit to supported integration within mainstream classes.

Teachers with a passion for Special Education in a secondary setting are encouraged to apply.

Specific Selection Criteria

 1.    Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism spectrum disorder, mild to moderate intellectual disability in a secondary school setting.

2.    Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work collaboratively and professionally with staff, parents/carers, external support agencies and the wider school community to build and enhance a culture of inclusivity and excellence.

3.    Demonstrated ability to develop, differentiate and deliver learning programs that support a diverse range of student needs using evidence-based practice.

4.    Demonstrated successful classroom management with a flexible and open approach, creating a positive learning environment that promotes student wellbeing, authentic relationships and success.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
