Position Information

Alexandria Park Community School is a Kindergarten to Year 12 community school. Over the past five years, enrolment has significantly increased, with enrolments surpassing 1200 in 2023. Approximately 42% of students are from a non-English speaking background and 18% are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. The school has an Opportunity Class in Year 5 and Year 6 and a Selective Stream in Year 7 to Year 10. In 2023 a Support Unit supporting students with a range of learning support needs was opened in the primary school. In 2025, this will expand into the high school with three new classes being created for students with autism, and students with autism and an intellectual disability. We have strong and authentic links with the community. Our families are supportive and engaged in all aspects of the school. 

Specific Selection Criteria

1.      Approval to teach and/or experience in teaching students with Autism, intellectual disabilities, students with challenging behaviours and/or mental health concerns, using a trauma-informed lens.

2.      Demonstrated ability to develop Personalised Learning and Support Plans to maximise student growth, promote high expectations and ensure engagement to meet the diverse needs of students, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

3.      Well-developed interpersonal, communication and organisational skills with the capacity to work collaboratively and empathetically with teachers, support staff, parents/carers and stakeholders to build and enhance a culture of inclusivity.

4.      Demonstrated successful classroom management with a flexible and open approach, creating a positive learning environment that promotes student wellbeing, authentic relationships and success.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
