Position Information
Picton High School has 1,180 students including 10% of students from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and 3% of students from an English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) background. The school also has eleven support classes to accommodate the 70 students with identified learning and support needs. We are located south west of Sydney between Camden and Mittagong and have a regional outlook. There are seven primary schools in our drawing area. Approximately 100 teachers and support staff work to provide a quality education for our students. Our community is a working community with a strong sporting ethos. Our parents want the best for their children including post-school opportunities for employment, training, and university. We have a strong junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and we are keen to develop even more opportunities to engage with our wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach Science 7-10, Chemistry
- Demonstrated ability to provide engaging and challenging differentiated programs to meet diverse student learning and wellbeing needs, including the needs of gifted and talented students and students needing learning support.
- Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively within an experienced, cohesive faculty on whole school and faculty initiatives that meet the learning needs of a diverse range of students.
- Demonstrated classroom management skills to establish effective routines and structures that support the wellbeing and learning of students
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
