Position Information
Tamworth High School is a proudly comprehensive, culturally diverse school located on Goonoo Goonoo Country in the heart of the New England–North West region. With an enrolment of approximately 650 students, including around 47% Aboriginal students, our school is committed to fostering strong community partnerships, high-quality teaching practice and inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments. We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Music teacher to join our Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) faculty.
The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to the learning, engagement and wellbeing of all students, including those from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, neurodiverse learners, reluctant learners, and high-potential students with advanced interest or aptitude in music. The teacher will contribute to a faculty culture focused on contemporary practice, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach Music.
Demonstrated ability to design and deliver differentiated, engaging Music programs that meet the diverse learning needs of students, including high-potential learners, reluctant learners and students with additional needs.
Applicants must show capacity to adjust content, pedagogy and assessment to varied readiness levels and learning profiles. This includes providing enrichment for High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) students, implementing evidence-informed strategies for neurodiverse learners, and maintaining high expectations for all students.Proven knowledge of Contemporary Music practices and the ability to develop students’ practical musicianship using modern instruments, digital technologies and current industry-relevant approaches.
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in contemporary genres and performance practices, including contemporary ensembles, digital audio workstations, composition software and improvisation, and show the ability to develop students’ technical and creative skills through relevant repertoire.Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal education priorities and the capacity to embed Aboriginal perspectives, including the 8 Ways of Learning, into classroom practice in meaningful and culturally respectful ways.
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to work in partnership with Aboriginal students, families and community, support the Department’s commitments to improving outcomes for Aboriginal learners, and contribute to classrooms where identity, culture and voice are respected.Demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships and engage effectively with students from culturally, socio-economically and linguistically diverse backgrounds, fostering inclusive learning environments that support wellbeing and participation.
Applicants should demonstrate cultural responsiveness, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues, families and support staff to enhance student engagement and achievement.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
