Position Information
Terrigal High School is a leading comprehensive, co-educational secondary school on the Central Coast. The school has a student population of 824, including a Support Unit with four multi-categorical classes. The school reflects the diversity of the local community, with a full range of socio-economic and educational backgrounds. EAL/D support is provided to 2% of the total student enrolment. The 2026 staffing entitlement is 64 teachers and 28 non-teaching staff. The school is located on Darkinjung land, with 6% of the total student population identifying as having Aboriginal heritage. The school has a close partnership with the local Kuriwa AECG to enhance Aboriginal cultural programs for all students and staff, addressing the needs of Aboriginal students.
The HSIE faculty at Terrigal High School consists of experienced teachers as well as new and beginning teachers. They pride themselves on offering a wide range of Stage 6 courses, including Ancient History, Business Studies, Economics, Geography, Legal Studies, and Modern History. Commerce is offered as an elective in Stage 5. The HSIE faculty has a long history of achieving excellent results, including consecutive years of Band 6 achievements.
Terrigal High School places student-centred, evidence-based practice at the core of all teaching and learning programs. The focus is on increasing student growth across Stages 4 and 5 in Literacy and Numeracy, with the promotion of high-quality HSC attainment for all students undertaking ATAR and vocational courses.
High-impact professional learning and self-evaluation processes are key to building the capacity of staff as leaders to optimise student learning, and these are embedded in school structures. Staff collaborate professionally to embed consistent pedagogical practice in all classrooms. At Terrigal High School, we believe in excellence in all aspects of school life. Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach HSIE Years 7-10, Stage 6 Geography and Legal Studies.
2. Ability to effectively manage the classroom environment and to implement effective teaching and learning practices, including explicit teaching strategies and differentiation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, EAL/D and HPGE learners.
3. Capacity to work collaboratively as an effective team member and contribute to faculty and whole-school programs and initiatives, including curriculum planning and implementation.
4. Enthusiastic, proactive teacher with demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships which engage and inspire students, teachers, parents and the wider school community
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
