About this job

Position Information

Located on Fossickers Way, Barraba Central School is a place where every member of the school community strives to be a safe, respectful learner. Nestled in the strong rural community of Barraba, the school nurtures students from Kindergarten to Year 12, with a current enrolment of 160 students.

As one of only three split-site Central Schools in the state, Barraba Central School has a unique history. The primary campus features several historic buildings, originally outlying one-teacher schools dating back to the gold rush era. The secondary campus boasts modern facilities, including trade training centres for hospitality and primary industries, providing students with hands-on learning experiences.

The school has a strong connection with its community, supported by an active and engaged P&C. With 25% of students identifying as Aboriginal, Barraba Central School takes great pride in embracing and celebrating its cultural heritage.

The school is dedicated to evidence-based teaching and learning practices that inspire students to excel academically, in sports, through extra-curricular activities, and in cultural endeavours. Through strategic partnerships and regional support networks, Barraba Central School ensures students have access to high-quality education and career pathways, benefiting from its proximity to Tamworth, just 90km away.

A key focus for the school is embedding restorative practices to strengthen relationships, promote student wellbeing, and build a positive school culture. This approach emphasises accountability, conflict resolution, and a strong sense of community.

Additionally, the school has developed a strong Pathways program for senior students, ensuring they have access to diverse post-school opportunities. Whether through Vocational Education and Training (VET), School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs), university pathways, or direct employment, students receive comprehensive support to achieve their career aspirations.
