Position Information

The Special Education Teacher (English) delivers high-quality, differentiated English instruction to students from Year 7 to Year 12 across hospital wards, classrooms, and remote learning environments. This role is central to supporting the English curriculum throughout the school by adapting teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs, health conditions, and variable enrolments of our students. The teacher works collaboratively with medical teams, families, and school staff to develop personalised learning pathways that address each student’s educational and wellbeing goals. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring continuity of learning, student engagement, and smooth transitions during hospital stays and re-entry to census school or alternative educational/vocational pathway.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approved to teach English (7-12) and willing to teach all subjects (with support) across all school stages (K–10), adapting pedagogy to students’ developmental and medical requirements.

Demonstrated skill in delivering education in multiple modalities responding flexibly to dynamic enrolment patterns.

Strong leadership in curriculum development and pedagogical improvement within English teaching.

Proven ability to collaborate effectively with health professionals, families, and school personnel.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

 

Special Notes

Staff working in schools within hospitals and youth justice centres must follow any vaccination requirements of NSW Health and Department of Communities and Justice respectively.
