Position Information
Hillston Central School is a K-12 remote rural school located on Wiradjuri land on the banks of the Lachlan, in the far west of the Riverina agricultural district. It has a current enrolment of 215 students, of which 20% are Aboriginal. Enrolments have been growing steadily over the past several years.
A committed staff continually enhance their teaching capacity and lead a wide variety of curricular and extra-curricula opportunities for students. These include extensive sporting opportunities; a strong focus on agriculture and links with our farming community; an extensive music program including bi-annual musical production and both a senior and junior band; local and interstate excursions.
The school is a member of the Riverina Access Partnership which delivers the Stage 6 curriculum through video conference lessons, team teaching and combined study days, largely aligned to provide broad student choice and opportunities. The school is committed to continually improving effective classroom practice and quality teaching and learning experiences, supported by focused professional learning and cutting edge technology across K-12. Literacy and numeracy, student engagement, and HSC performance, are a major focus.
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach English 7 - 12 and English extension 1&2
Well-developed developed interpersonal, communication and organisational skills to build positive relationships with teachers, students, parents and the community.
Capacity to implement effective classroom management strategies and to plan and implement differentiated teaching and learning programs to maximise student growth and promote high expectations for all students
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
