Position Information
Lavington Public School is a K-6 suburban school located in the city of Albury. The school currently has 420 students, 56 staff, and 20 classes, including three multi-categorical specialist support classes. Approximately 22% of the school enrolment are from a language background other than English, and approximately 15% of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. 5% of students come from a refugee background and 3% have been living in Australia for less than 12 months. Students at the school have 15 different countries of birth, and 18 different languages are spoken in their homes, with the most common languages being Swahili, Nepali and Urdu. Our community's strength lies in its diversity, with students coming from a broad range of family configurations, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Additionally, the school is bordered to the west by Bungambrawatha Creek, providing many unique, nature-based learning opportunities for students. Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach English as an additional language or dialect or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in English as an additional language or dialect qualifications approved by the NSW Department of education.
A demonstrated understanding of the demands of working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and the challenges faced by EAL/D learners.
Ability to use assessment tools, ESL Scales and EALD Learning Progressions to assess student language development, and develop and implement EALD programs, interventions and resources tailored to student need.
High level interpersonal skills that build meaningful connections with staff, families and the community, enhancing learning and wellbeing outcomes for all EAL/D students.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Applicants seeking either permanent full time or permanent part time employment are encouraged to apply for this position. If the recommended applicant is seeking permanent part time employment (FTE from 0.1 to 0.9 inclusive), they will be offered an appointment at their desired FTE. Applicants on the eligibility list will be offered the remaining FTE but are not obliged to accept. If applicable engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as an additional language or dialect (primary) as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 12 months.
