Position Information
Hurlstone Agricultural High School is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and innovative EAL/D specialist teacher to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity implement teaching and learning programs that foster the development of English language, and improve the literacy and numeracy outcomes for students learning English as an additional language or dialect so they can access and continue learning in the classrooms whilst developing their English language proficiency. Hurlstone Agricultural High School has 993 students enrolled, including 11 Aboriginal students and 1 Torres Strait Islander student and 345 English as an additional language or dialect language students (EAL/D). Hurlstone Agricultural High School is the only NSW Government fully selective, coeducational, agricultural, boarding high school. Located in Glenfield. The school nurtures the whole child in an inclusive environment where high potential and gifted learners are known, valued and cared for. Student voice is active and dynamic. Students give back to the community in numerous ways including extensive extra-curricular programs in Creative and Performing Arts, Sports, Agricultural, Student Representative Council, Interact, Student Union, Enviro Club, debating, Model United Nations Assembly, mentoring and other leadership development programs highlighted by an exceptional student leadership body. The school is supported by the Parents and Citizens' Association, Boarder Parent Welfare, and alumni network. Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach English as an Additional Language/Dialect (years 7 - 12).
Demonstrated capacity to collaborate with class and subject teachers, and school executive, to co-design learning by guiding planning in differentiation for increasingly complex use of academic language across the stages of schooling.
Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively in a culturally and linguistically diverse school community, including supporting high potential and gifted students, to assess evidence and track growth of English language proficiency and guide teachers in consistent teacher judgement with the use of the ACARA EAL/D Learning Progression and the ESL scales.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
Special Notes
This is a permanent part-time position of 2 days per week, 0.4 FTE (full time equivalent)
