Position Information

 Strathfield South High School is a proudly inclusive comprehensive school with a Support Unit comprising eight Autism classes and four Deaf Education classes. The school enrols approximately 560 students, with over 80% from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Diversity is actively valued and promoted, with the school community working collaboratively to ensure all students develop a strong understanding of and respect for their own cultural identities and those of others.

Academic achievement is complemented by comprehensive wellbeing structures and a wide range of curricular and co-curricular opportunities, including extensive sporting pathways, creative and performing arts programs and an award winning agricultural unit.

You will be joining a vibrant, supportive and energetic EAL/D English team supporting all students with English as a second language. You will provide targeted instruction to develop literacy and English language proficiency across curriculum areas. Key roles include co-teaching in mainstream classrooms, designing specialised lessons, and nurturing student confidence with individual and group support.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach secondary English as a second language or currently completing or currently enrolled in an approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a second language (secondary) as recognised by the NSW Department of Education.

Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to actively collaborate with students, staff and the wider community to build positive relationships that support student outcomes and promote an inclusive school culture.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement high quality engaging and effective differentiated teaching and learning EALD programs and resources to maximise the learning outcomes of the diverse cultures including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.

Demonstrated capacity to track growth in the effective use of ACARA EAL/D Learning Progressions and ESL Scales and contribute to whole-school data collection and reporting practices.

 

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

If applicable, engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the approved post graduate qualification for teaching English as a second language as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 12 months.
