Position Information
Bankstown Public School is a large multicultural school of 720 students and is located within the CBD of Bankstown. 98% of students are from non–English speaking backgrounds and 10 are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students. There are currently 48 language backgrounds with 29% speaking Arabic, 17% speaking Vietnamese and 12% speaking Urdu.
The staff at Bankstown Public School are a highly committed and diverse group of experienced and early career teachers. There are 30 mainstream classes and a Support Unit consisting of 2 IO/AU classes, an AU class and an IM class. The school offers Community Language Arabic, Vietnamese and Urdu. The school has a Community Hub coordinator who works with the community to build parent capacity to support student learning. Bankstown Public School has very strong student welfare programs and the school supports a Playtime program for preschool aged students and their parents and continues to foster and build community participation and support.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach K-6 and Vietnamese Community Language, with knowledge of the Modern Languages syllabus and Vietnamese language and culture.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of cohesive teams and collaborate with staff and the school community.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of explicit teaching and ongoing assessment and feedback to differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Ability to create engaging learning environments which support positive behaviour and wellbeing to promote high expectations and student success.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
