Position Information

Mount Austin High School is located in Wagga Wagga, NSW on Wiradjuri country. Mount Austin High School is a comprehensive, co-educational, inclusive school. There are 540 students enrolled at Mount Austin High School, 46% of whom, identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. There are 5 Special Education classes, an Intensive English class, a Clontarf Academy, a Girls at the Centre program and a Restorative Practices Centre on site. A number of capital works projects have been undertaken recently including refurbishments to the Visual Arts classrooms, the cafe, the library, and staff professional learning spaces.

Staff are a mix of newly appointed, beginning, and experienced teachers who are committed to the school, students, and community. Developing and maintaining significant community connections, academic growth and authentic post-school destinations for all students are focal points of school planning. Mount Austin High School works in close partnership with the local AECG.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach careers or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in the Careers Adviser qualifications approved by the New South Wales Department of Education.

Proven communication skills with the capacity to support, inform and inspire students from diverse backgrounds to choose post-school pathway options aligned to their goals.

Highly developed knowledge and understanding of vocational education and training in schools, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, and HSC pathways.

Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with staff, external agencies and the wider school community to improve access and opportunities for all students including university, training and work opportunities.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

 

 

Special Notes

If applicable, engagement will be temporary until successful completion of the Careers Adviser qualifications as recognised by the NSW Department of Education, which must be completed within 12 months.
