Position Information

Googong High School will open to year 7 and 8 students in 2027. Situated in the Queanbeyan Network on Ngambri and Ngunnawal Country, the school serves a rapidly growing, highly engaged and aspirational community, with the potential for the school to expand to cater for approximately 2000 students.

The Careers Adviser will be a founding member of our Pathways and Academy team (in the future this will be the Pathways and Academies Faculty). This faculty will have a unique position in Googong High School in developing flexible curriculum and pathways options for a variety of students. In a rapidly changing world, Googong High School is focused on creating opportunities for students to access learning opportunities that reflect their individual interests and skillsets.

The founding Careers Adviser will have a critical role in helping establish the pathways design for the school as it continues to grow. The school is exploring a partnership with Study,Work,Grow and using Career Clusters to not only guide student career motivations but to design and structure our curriculum. The Careers Adviser will have a key role in establishing these pathways with executive in the school.

Googong High School is being designed around an exciting and innovative curriculum structure that is founded in Learning Sciences. As a new school with the opportunity to establish a dynamic and contemporary culture, the school is building a learning design that reflects a broad research base in effective and modern teaching practices. This includes a whole school skills framework (RECONI) and Teacher Librarians are well placed to build on these learning skills both through direct teaching and supporting other staff to implement these skills in their own subjects.

Specific Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach Careers or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in Careers qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education

2.    Excellent understanding of the changing career needs of students and the ability to contribute to a curriculum which is tailored to support all students in their learning pathway.

3.   Exemplary personal, interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to build relationships with both students, staff and external providers to strengthen a school’s curriculum offerings.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
