About Thornton State School

We are a small primary school with 17 students, 2 full-time teachers, 1 full-time teacher-aide and a part-time business manager. We currently have two multi-age classrooms- Prep-Year 2 and Year 3- Year 6. Our students also attend specialist PE, Japanese (Year 5/6), and The Arts weekly. Our students have diverse needs and require support to access the curriculum and learning environment at their level. Inclusion is a priority of our school.

About the Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Displaying a high level of initiative to support students and teachers throughout the day.
  • Following a timetable to work with identified students.
  • Maintaining anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing student's development.
  • Displaying confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitively to students and their families.
  • Clerical assistance duties including duplicating and photocopying teaching materials and assisting in preparing, storing, making available and clearing away teaching equipment and materials.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Working with all students, including a 2025 Prep student with high needs
  • Displaying respect and empathy for students with high level needs.
  • Communicating effectively and displaying high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member.
  • Willingness to adapt to changes in routines as deemed necessary and appropriate, including accompanying students to off-site school events and experience days.
  • Contributing to a positive and respectful school culture.
