Helidon State School is a co-educational state school situated between Gatton and Toowoomba (about a 20 minutes drive to each). There are about 115 students currently at the school from Prep to year 6. 

You Role (Specifics)

This role will be for 3.25 hours/day Monday to Friday mornings until 19 September 2025, unless otherwise determined.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing intensive one-to-one and small group support to students with disabilities in the Prep - Year 2 phase.
  • Active supervision of specific students in the playground and at set ‘movement break' times.
  • Experience in a special education or learning support setting may be an advantage.
  • Specific training for the role will be negotiated with the Principal.

Your Role (General)

  • Assisting in the supervision of education activities, under the direction of a teacher
  • Working with small groups as well as individual students
  • Communicating effectively and displaying high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member
  • Displaying respect and empathy for students with high level needs
  • Displaying confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitivity to students and their families

You may also be called upon to:

  • Assist with the management and stocktaking of equipment and resources
  • Undertake clerical assistance duties including typing teachers' notes and programs, photocopying teaching materials, collation and duplication of exam papers, recording of examination results, compiling students' results records, assisting in organising off-site activities
  • Assist in preparing, storing, distributing and clearing away teaching equipment and materials
  • Contribute to the welfare, health and safety of students, including the delivery of first aid
