Are you a support worker looking to move into the field of education? A supportive and welcoming school in Hackney, East London, are looking for a former support worker with transferrable skills to work as a Learning Support Assistant. As a Learning support assistant, you will be working on a predominantly 1-1 basis with a student with SEN. This role will suit a former support worker who has experience with individuals with Special Educational Needs (SEN). As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work on a 1-1 and small group basis, supporting children aged 11-16 with SEN. You may be solely supporting one student, or have a rotating group of students you are timetabled with. Your role may also involve personal care and other additional duties, previous experience of which is highly desired. This role is within a mainstream secondary school, and is for a January start. You must be available full time, and be reliable and dedicated.

The right candidate will have SEN and Personal care experience, but they will also be patient and understanding. They will be flexible, and committed to supporting young people and helping them thrive. If this sounds like you, then please apply below.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing one-to-one support to a student with SEN, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Providing personal care and other support
  • Implementing tailored learning strategies and interventions as directed by the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
  • Collaborating with teachers and other support staff to ensure the individual needs of students are met effectively.
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of differentiated activities to support student progress.
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in an SEN role, preferably within a school setting.
  • Previous experience of providing personal care in the workplace
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Strong understanding of various Special Educational Needs and associated support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting the diverse needs of students.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support (desirable but not essential).
