About Us:

Spinifex State College Residential Campus Mount Isa is an Education Queensland initiative that provides a living away from home opportunity for rural and remote area secondary students from Northern, Central and Western Queensland locations. The Residential Campus was established in January 2003 and has the capacity for up to 60 students. Students in years 8, 9 & 10 attend Spinifex State College Junior Campus and students in years 11 & 12 attend Spinifex State College Senior Campus.

About the Role:

You will be working in a team of people who are responsible for the safe and secure environment away from home for secondary students in a boarding setting. You will monitor and liaise with students, parents and school on a regular basis to support and mentor students as they progress through school, ensuring their health and pastoral care needs are met. The ideal applicant should have experience in working with adolescents in a boarding school campus. This is a 24hr, seven day facility with staff rostered on a variety of shifts throughout the week and the weekend during school terms. This includes active/awake night shifts for each staff member.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Actively contribute to the development and management of a safe and secure environment for secondary students residing at the campus by rigorously applying all systems and procedures.
  • Assist students in the development of their social and personal skills by helping students understand their responsibilities and to develop positive relations with others.
  • Contribute to student health care by administering approved treatments and by contributing to planning and development of health programs.
  • Support the schooling of students by working in partnership with school staff to ensure students are prepared and punctual in their movements to and from school.

Highly desirable skills and experience;

  • Current First Aid training or a willingness to obtain a First Aid certificate
  • A car licenses or a willingness to obtain a LHR Bus License
