Position Information

Picnic Point High School co-educational comprehensive school in Sydney with approximately 860 students in 2026. Located on Kennedy Street, it offers a diverse curriculum with strong performing arts, sports, and inclusive education for Years 7-12. The school focuses on student well-being and community partnership; promoting a "known, valued, and cared for" philosophy based on respect, responsibility, and participation. 28% of students come from language backgrounds other than English, and 4% identify as Aboriginal. The school includes an Inclusive Education Unit with four support classes.

The Intensive Learning Support teacher (Behaviour) will provide intensive, targeted support for students with complex and challenging behaviour. This role is centred on creating an inclusive learning environment where students develop social-emotional skills to manage their own behaviour for learning. The Intensive Learning Support teacher (Behaviour) provide group and individual teaching, often with the assistance of a Student Learning Support Officer (SLSO). This includes explicitly teaching pro-social behaviour, such as emotional regulation and social skills. A critical part of the role is developing, implementing, and monitoring individualised Behaviour Support and Behaviour Response Plans and Personalised Learning and Support Plans. The Intensive Support Behaviour teacher will work closely with parents, carers, and external service providers (like therapists) to ensure a consistent approach across the student's home and school life.

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience in working with students with behaviour difficulties and/or trauma.
  2. Proven ability to develop, implement and review Individualised Behaviour Support Plans, Personalised Learning and Support Plans and Behaviour Response Plans.
  3. Highly developed classroom management skills with the capacity to support learning; through modelling and explicit teaching.
  4. Knowledge of, implementation and commitment to the department aboriginal education policies.
