About You:

Your role will involve facilitating collaborative decision-making to enhance student learning and wellbeing.

As a social worker in the Metropolitan South Region, you will work across various school sites and be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team at the school level. Your responsibilities will include offering counselling, conducting assessments, and implementing interventions focused on students' mental health and overall wellbeing. You will also have the opportunity to help develop, implement, and evaluate programs and interventions designed to boost student engagement and participation in school.

Additionally, we are seeking social workers with experience and interest in working with students with disabilities. Special schools such as Western Suburbs Special School, Mackenzie Special School, and Kuraby Special School are particularly interested in qualified candidates for these roles.

Your opportunity:

Social Workers employed through the Student Wellbeing Package role and responsibilities include:

  • Using professional knowledge of psychological interventions and treatments to deliver appropriate and tailored therapeutic intervention to support students' mild to moderate concerns, including:
      • Mental health concerns including anxiety, depression.
      • Personal relationships.
      • Stress.
      • Trauma and crisis.
  • Providing support and ensure safety plans for the school context are implemented for students who are self-harming and/or at risk of suicide.
  • Applying understanding of the mental health continuum to identify when students require additional mental health support outside of the school context.
  • Understanding of the mental health system to provide students who need additional support for their mental health concerns with warm referrals to external agencies.
  • Supporting students following a critical incident or emergency, ensuring their wellbeing is monitored and supported.
  • With student permission, work with other wellbeing and school staff to ensure strategies developed for the student can be put in place in the classroom and the wider school community.
  • Undertake individual and group counselling and therapeutic interventions with students, parents and families to assist them in the mild to moderate mental health needs.
