About the Role:

As the Senior Regulatory Officer, you will play a crucial role in assessing information and evidence so to provided defensible recommendations, advice and information in accordance with the principles of good administrative decision making and best practice regulation. You will also be proactive and support regulatory practice reforms and initiatives that achieve strategic objectives and activities under the relevant legislative frameworks.

The Senior Regulatory Officer reports to the Manager/s, Registration Services, Early Childhood, Regulation and Communication Division.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of risk-based regulatory frameworks, tools, and processes to enhance operational efficiency and regulatory outcomes.
  • Identify and analyse issues, risks, and trends relevant to the regulation of non-state schools and develop strategies to address challenges.
  • Ability to identify and assess high-risk and complex matters ensuring compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.
  • Drive work planning to support the team leadership and prioritise regulatory efforts based on intelligence and data-driven risk assessments.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of corporate documentation, including strategic and operational reports, policies, procedures, and annual reports.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide high-level advice and recommendations, preparing high-quality correspondence, reports, and briefings for the Branch to inform the Director-General, Minister, and senior leaders.
  • Foster a high-performing team culture, mentoring staff, celebrating achievements, and promoting professional development.

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • Be highly organised, be able to navigate complex issues, and have highly developed conceptual, analytical and communication skills.
  • Have the ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy in a regulatory environment, including the ability to analyse matters, make sound judgments and recommendations regarding appropriate course of action, manage a high volume of work, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality.
